Educational Outreach

Overview

Arts education is an essential component that empowers children, building a greater awareness of themselves through expression in the dance vocabulary as well as empathy for others. At the same time, it sews the seeds for healthy living through exercise.

Goh Ballet is proud to have offered in-school programming throughout Vancouver since 2010. Educational outreach is a cornerstone of Goh Ballet’s philosophy — making the arts accessible to all builds society and enhances the lives of all who participate.

Our current partner schools:

Goh Ballet's instructors are certified by the Royal Academy of Dance to teach ballet and have early childhood development experience teaching choreography in creative movement, jazz and more.

Participation in a ballet-based dance program provides students with an invigorating, creative and athletic outlet providing them with the opportunity to expand their artistic expression, music appreciation, self-confidence and body awareness. Complementing their academic studies, training in dance promotes enhanced mental and physical nourishment essential towards furthering the development of young bodies and minds.

Agreements & Policies

Cancellation & Withdrawal Policy

Students who wish to discontinue lessons prior to the end of the school year must notify their dance instructor in writing. Partial term refunds will only be given for medical reasons. If a student withdraws after the commencement of a term for medical reasons, a medical certificate is required prior to the withdrawal from any classes or programs in order to receive a refund. No refunds or credits will be given for missed classes.

Tuition Payment Agreement

Parents/guardians agree to pay for dance instruction per the published tuition rates, extra class fees (if applicable), performance fees, costume fees and competition fees (if applicable) for the student’s period of study. An administration fee of $50.00 will be applied to NSF cheques or expired credit cards. Parents/guardians understand that if their tuition payment is not remitted on time, their child will not be allowed to participate in classes until the amount owing is balanced.

Liability Policy

Parents/guardians are aware that dance training and the athletic exercises associated with it place unusual stress on the body and carry a risk of physical injury. Parents/guardians assume the risk and agree that Goh Ballet and the Dance Program shall not be liable in any way for injuries sustained during attendance, dance class or any related functions. Parents/guardians understand that good dance training involves touching and adjustment of the student’s body by the instructor. Parents/guardians acknowledge that neither the Goh Ballet, the Dance Program nor its instructors are responsible for any loss of or damage to the student’s personal property.

Medical Policy

In the event that a parent/guardian cannot be reached, the management, faculty, administration, staff and chaperones of the Dance Program are authorized to enact any emergency medical care that may be required by students during participation in classes, performances or any related Dance Program events. This authorization extends throughout the current academic year. Parents/guardians are responsible for any and all charges as a result of such care or medical treatment. Parents/guardians understand that if the student requires an epinephrine pen (EpiPen) administered in the event of an allergic reaction, a letter detailing permission of administration is required. Without this letter, an EpiPen cannot be administered by any Dance Program faculty members under any circumstances. If a student requires prescription medication for any reason, a letter of permission of administration is required. Without this letter, the Dance Program faculty will not administer any prescription medication.

Publicity Policy

Parents/guardians grant permission to Goh Ballet and the Dance Program to post stories, photos, videos or other items related to their child’s experience with the production, hereinafter referred to as “Materials,” on Goh Ballet websites, print media and other web platforms and services as well as social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram. Parents/guardians release themselves, their representative, employees, managers, members, officers, related entities, subsidiaries and directors, from all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with any use of said “Materials,” including, without limitation, all claims for invasion of privacy, infringement of their right of publicity, defamation and any other personal and/or property they acknowledge and agree that no sums whatsoever will be due to me as a result of the use and/or exploitation of the “Materials” or any right therein.

Class Attendance

Students should notify Ms. Tanya Phelps, Associate Director of Special Projects, if they are unable to attend a class.

Health & Safety

The health and safety of our students, staff and community are of the utmost importance to us at Goh Ballet. We follow and adhere to all provincial government and health authority guidelines, and Goh Ballet’s updated Communicable Disease Prevention Policy includes comprehensive sanitization procedures, requirements for all staff, faculty, pianists and students to self-screen prior to coming to the Academy. We acknowledge that the pandemic is ever evolving and are committed to actively monitoring and updating our solutions to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all our students, families, faculty, pianists, and staff.

While mask & vaccine mandates are no longer in place, we highly encourage our Adult Ballet Community to do what they can to keep themselves and others safe.
