Discover a fresh, dynamic approach to ballet in this welcoming contemporary ballet class, designed to build strength, mobility, coordination, balance, and body awareness while encouraging greater freedom and ease of movement.
Drawing primarily from Countertechnique, with influences from Cunningham, Limón, and other modern dance practices, the class reimagines familiar ballet movements such as pliés, tendus, turns, and travelling phrases. Alongside these foundations, we’ll explore spirals, swings, rebounds, and the natural momentum of the body to create more fluid, expansive movement.
Special attention will be given to the articulation and mobility of the spine, releasing unnecessary tension and discovering how one movement can naturally flow into the next. The class offers a full-body workout that develops strength, flexibility, coordination, stamina, and spatial awareness, while also providing a creative and refreshing way to move.
Work will take place both in the centre and across the floor, building toward a short piece of choreography that brings the movement principles together. Classes will be accompanied by live music, adding an exciting and responsive dimension to the experience.
No previous contemporary dance experience is necessary. Ballet experience is welcome but not required. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, with socks on your feet.
Come ready to move, explore, and discover a new freedom in your body.
