Fostering Confidence & Creativity Through Self-Expression

About Us

Dance should be a part of every child’s upbringing; it is a vital form of human expression. Nurturing and cultivating this physical and emotional communication is the core mission of the Goh Ballet Academy.

Through participation in dance, we are able to unveil and foster hidden talents and inspire creative thinkers. The holistic experience and training of dance connects the mind and body and draws out confidence, independence and artistic expression that contribute not only to the fulfillment of a dance career, but also to valuable life skills.

Goh Ballet aims to provide the optimal level of dance instruction to encourage the development of a child’s individual bests, fostered in an environment of like-minded peers in the pursuit of personal excellence.

Vision and Mission

For over 40 years, our Academy has been recognized as the premiere dance academy in Vancouver, offering the highest caliber of dance education and artistic experience. Our comprehensive curriculum and unrivaled opportunities for professional performances are celebrated by the community and recognized in international circles.

Goh Ballet Academy is unique in that students are able to take advantage of world class training and opportunities while benefiting from high quality of life, academic excellence through our public and private school system, and for those that live in Vancouver, the ability to remain with their families until after graduation. Our well-rounded training programs offer opportunities that are typically found only in ballet schools officially associated with the top ballet companies around the world which are often funded federally and designed specifically to feed into these companies.

The Academy is extremely proud to acknowledge the achievements of our students at international competitions and the visibility of our graduates who fill the ranks of world renowned companies. The continued success of our students and the dedication of their families provide motivation for our Faculty and supporters to continue to strive for excellence.

A Legacy Since 1978

Since 1978, Vancouver, Canada has been home to the most decorated and diverse dance institute in the country, Goh Ballet Academy. Established by National Ballet of China’s Choo Chiat and Lin Yee Goh, Goh Ballet was created to pursue technical and artistic excellence and to celebrate cultural awareness in the dance community. Under the direction of Chan Hon Goh since 2010, former Principal Dancer of the National Ballet of Canada, the Academy continues its legacy of training generations of dancers who garner international praise and accolades.

In addition to creation of the Academy, Mr. Goh’s vision led him to form the Goh Ballet Youth Company (GBYC) in 1979. Over 35 years later, this performance group serves as an artistic bridge to aspiring young dancers locally and internationally to transition from students to professionals. In 1987, Goh Ballet pioneered the first integrated half-day academic program to allow students the opportunity to continue school studies and professional training simultaneously.

The Goh Ballet Academy and Youth Company are committed to technical excellence showcased through a wide-ranging and ever expanding repertoire of classical and contemporary ballet, jazz, character and Chinese dance. Goh Ballet has presented full length productions and segments of classical favourites such as Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Napoli Act 3, Coppelia, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Swan Lake Act II, La Bayadere Act II, La Fille Mal Gardee, Giselle, and their critically acclaimed annual production of The Nutcracker; all of which have been staged by internationally acclaimed guest artists such as Johnny Eliasen, Elyse Borne, Nikita Dolgushin, Frank Andersen and Anna-Marie Holmes, among others.

The Youth Company has toured around the world including in the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, France and the U.S.A. The achievements of the Academy’s dancers at international competitions, and the visibility of its graduates who fill the ranks of world-renowned companies, reinforces the global reputation of Goh Ballet as a provider of world class training and opportunities.
