Jennifer Fournier

Jennifer Fournier is a former principal dancer with the National Ballet of Canada and The Suzanne Farrell Ballet. She received her training at Canada’s National Ballet School under the tutelage of Betty Oliphant. During her 22-year career, Ms. Fournier danced countless leading roles in the classical and contemporary ballet repertoire including Odette-Odile in Swan Lake, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, Swanhilda in Coppelia, Queen of the Wilis in Giselle, Nikiya in La Bayadere Act II, Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow, and The Sylph in Bournonville’s La Sylphide. Among her many principal roles in the Balanchine repertoire are Lead Girl in Rubies and the ballerina in Diamonds in the full-length Jewels, Tchaikovsky Pas De Deux, Mozartiana, 3rd Movement in Symphony in C, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, Waltz Girl in Serenade, Stravinsky Violin Concerto, Duo Concertante, Tzigane, Monumentum and Movements, and Who Cares. She has also danced leading roles in Kenneth MacMillan’s Concerto, Manon, and Song of The Earth, as well as in Frederick Ashton’s The Dream and Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan. Ms. Fournier has had the privilege of working with many contemporary choreographers including Glen Tetley, James Kudelka, John Neumeier and William Forsythe. In 2012, she graduated with High Distinction from the University of Toronto with a B.A. in International Relations and History and has a degree in Fundraising Management from Ryerson University. She teaches ballet and repertoire at the School of Alberta Ballet in Calgary and enjoys writing about dance.
