Chun Che

As a distinguished former Principal Dancer of the National Ballet of China, Mr. Che’s diverse repertoire included principal roles in the major classics as well as the new revolutionary creations. From the playfully technical “Basilio” in Don Quixote and the exuberant power of “Ali” in Le Corsair to the elegant romance of “Prince Seigfried” in Swan Lake, Mr. Che’s versatility and allure not only captured the hearts of his audiences in China, Germany, Yugoslavia, Romania, and Austria, but also inspired many Choreographers to create revolutionary ballets on him.

Mr. Che immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1979. His dancing career continued to flourish, participating in Gala performances and The Banff Festival of Fine Arts. It was after immigrating to Canada that Mr. Che’s interest in teaching and choreographing grew. In 1982, Mr. Che took on the position of Vice-Principal of the Vancouver Goh Ballet where he could devote more time to teach and to choreograph for the students enrolled in the professional program. His choreography soon gained critical acclaim as presented by the Vancouver Goh Ballet on performance tours through out South East Asia, China, and North America. Many of his students were finalists and award recipients at prestigious competitions such as the Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland, the New York International Ballet Competition in U.S.A., the Adeline Genee Competition in London, England, and the Jackson International Ballet Competition in U.S.A.

With his primary residence in Toronto since 1989, Mr. Che conducts Master Classes and Workshops by invitation from The Royal Academy of Dance, the British Imperial Teachers Association, and for professional companies touring through Toronto. He has also served as adjudicator for The Solos Seal Awards, the highest level of examinations held by the Royal Academy of Dancing. In 1991, by invitation from Swedish born Artistic Director Mr. Bengt Jorgen, Mr. Che took on the position of Principal Teacher for Ballet Jorgen Canada (the foremost choreographic dance company in Canada) and at the same time he also took on the responsibilities as Principal Teacher for George Brown Dance, the affiliated school to Ballet Jorgen Canada.

In 1998, Mr. Che developed Principal by Chan Hon Goh™. Principal shoes, the only ballet shoes in Canada designed by dancers for dancers, has gained immense recognition for excellence in the professional community.

n 1999, along with his duties as Principal Teacher for Ballet Jorgen Canada and George Brown Dance, Mr. Che accepted a special invitation from Artistic Director, Mr. James Kudelka of the National Ballet of Canada to guest teach the company. When scheduling permits, Mr. Che on occasion accepts guest teaching across Canada, the USA, and Asia.
