Mission of the Goh Ballet Society

The Goh Ballet Vancouver Society was established in 1980 with the mission to provide and cultivate artistic and career development opportunities for aspiring classical ballet professionals, and to strengthen the Vancouver and Western Canada community and its national and international status through fostering dance, culture, diversity, internationalism and the pursuit of excellence.

In its nearly three-decade history the Society has helped to fund and produce yearly performances and tours of Vancouver-based youth ballet and pre-professional dance ensembles. It has also funded training scholarships for aspiring professional dancers and has served as a conduit to visiting ballet luminaries who have enhanced the prestige of Vancouver performance spaces and dance training institutions.

Goh Ballet Vancouver Society scholarship recipients have gone on to win top prizes in the world’s most prestigious ballet competitions, such as the Royal Academy of Dance’s Genée International Ballet Competition and the Prix de Lausanne.

Young beneficiaries of the Society’s initiatives now dance in the best Companies in the world, such as: American Ballet Theatre Company (USA), St. Petersburg Opera and Ballet Company ( Russia), San Francisco Ballet Company (USA) The National Ballet of Canada, Pacific Northwest Ballet (USA), Australian Ballet Company, Boston Ballet (USA) and many others. They have also embarked on other successful careers, bolstered by the discipline, dedication and perseverance instilled in them through their classical ballet roots.
