The 2005/2006 season at the Goh Ballet has been an incredible journey, which will culminate with our year-end shows on June 10 and 17.
We hope you can make it to our June 10 performance at the Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts, which will celebrate the year's truly remarkable accomplishments with a truly remarkable full-evening performance. Special ticket deals for Goh Ballet families and for groups are available. See below for details!
A short rundown of the major achievements of the year will show how busy and productive the year has been for our dedicated group of world-class dancers-in-training:
- SEPTEMBER: First ever Canadian Gold Medal at the Genée International Competition – Goh Ballet’s Céline Gittens.
- OCTOBER: Joint performance with the Guandong Modern Dance Company at the Centre in Vancouver, commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Sister provinces of British Columbia and Guangdong and the 20th Anniversary of the Sister Cities of Vancouver and Guangzhou.
- NOVEMBER: Goh Ballet Vancouver Society celebrated its 25 year anniversary of supporting aspiring young dancers in Vancouver.
- DECEMBER: World-renown choreographer Anna-Marie Holmes staged The Enchanted Garden for the Goh Youth Ballet Ensemble. Christmas Show is sold out and brings down the house!
- JANUARY: Toronto Jazz Choreographer Gino Berti creates a new piece for the Ensemble. Numerous community and educational school shows.
- FEBRUARY: Seven dancers receive scholarships, including Kostya Keshyshev, who receives the first ever Ian Robertson Memorial Scholarship for an exceptional male dancer.
- MARCH: James Stout becomes the Academy’s 19 th recipient of the Solo Seal. The Ensemble performs for the ArtStarts in Schools conference, receiving superlative evaluations.
- APRIL: At the invitation of the Chinese Government, the Ensemble toured Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai. Dancers take nearly 3 dozen first place awards at the Surrey and Pacific West Dance Festivals, including the top prize for the group “Jewelry”. Mr. & Mrs. Goh receive the 2006 B.C. Community Achievement Award.
- MAY: Kostya Keshyshev, James Stout and Fei Fei Ye are selected to compete in the Varna International Competition in Bulgaria.
- JUNE: The June 10 th at 8:00 p.m. at the Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts will feature all of our award-winning dancers, some of whom are graduating and moving on to careers in the best dance companies the world has to offer. Others, though already at a remarkable level and with so much vital performance experience under their belts, will be staying on for the kind of final polish that can differentiate the great from the good. Still others are rising and brightening to come centre stage in the coming seasons. Please give these young dancers your vote of confidence by telling your friends and family to join us for a fantastic evening. Tickets are available at www.centretix.com or by calling 604-699-8888. June 10, special ticket deals:
- General Division Students Free! Our general division students and parents are always peeking through the doors in Studio 1 to see what the professional division is up to. Here's your chance to see them in all their glory - and for our general division students to see what all of the deliberate and rigourous training they are going through can lead to! Parents, come to the Goh Ballet office, buy a ticket for yourself and get tickets for all of your children in our General Division free! Hurry to get the best available tickets!
- Group Discounts! Groups of 5 or more receive special discounts. The more people in your group, the deeper the discount! Call Goh Ballet for details: 604-872-4014. Also, special discounts for Lower Mainland dance schools.
In other news, registration for the 5-week Summer Intensive from July 3 to August 5 is on-going. Contact us for schedules and fees and/or to register for an audition. Auditions are required for professional division applicants and can be arranged in-person at the Goh Ballet studios or via video submission. Our final group audition will be Tuesday, June 20 at 4:00 p.m. at our studios in Vancouver.
