Caridad Martinez, a former principal dancer with the National Ballet of Cuba, has performed as a principal dancer in many of the world's greatest theaters, including Scala de Milano, the Champs Elysses Theatre in Paris, the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, the Beaux Arts Theater in Mexico City, and the Bolshoi, Kirov Theater in Saint Petersburg. A graduate of Cuban National Ballet School, she also studied at the Superior Institute of Art in Cuba. Ms Martinez performed major roles in Coppelia, Don Quixote, Les Sylfides, Le Flames of Paris, Grand Pas de Quatre, Apollo, Times out of Mind, Le Papillon; and several choreographies were created for her the most acclaimed are Munecos and Plasmasis both choreographies were awarded in Varna and in Tokio International Ballet Competition.
Ms. Martinez has also served as the Artistic Director and choreographer of The Havana Ballet Theater Company, as guest teacher for the Beau Art Schools in Mexico, and as Conservatory Director, choreographer and teacher at Brooklyn Ballet. Ms Martinez is yearly invited to teach in Annarella International Ballet and Dance Conservatory, Portugal, Harkness Dance Center in New York, National Ballet of Panama, she had been invited to teach at Alberta Ballet School, Joffrey School and she is a former member of the committee’s Bessie Awards.
She has choreographed for movies, television, ballet and modern dance companies, She succeeded in Veracruz Mexico by founding the Escuela Cubana de Ballet in Veracruz.
Currently she’s a faculty member for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and a guest teacher for Dance Theater of Harlem’s company, she is a member of BalletBeyond Borders board and faculty, jury and teacher of Danza Activa Grand Prix in Panama.
