A Wonderful Summer at the Goh Ballet’s International Intensive

The Goh Ballet's International Summer Intensive Program is well under-way with only one day remaining of the four week intensive. Dancers from outside of the province including, the United States and even as far as Japan, have come to participate in this intensive and learn from amazing dance luminaries including; Paola Hartley, Principal Ballerina of Ballet Arizona; Yao Ping Zhu, former Principal Dancer with Central Ballet Company China and Goh Ballet's very own Ballet Master; Curtis Foley, former Principal dancer for Les Ballets Grandiva; and Simone Orlando, Graduate of the National Ballet School and former Principal dancer for Ballet BC. Faculty members also include National Theatre Award & Kevin Klein Awardee, Diana Kaarina and Pilates Instructors, Janine Jacques & Barb Vadovicova.

Dancers are taking this time to absorb everything they can from the guest teachers and are especially enjoying exploring new territory in alternative dance genres. "We are given the chance to participate in classes other than Ballet" explains International student Haruko Hijikata. "Musical theatre is a class we have particularly enjoyed. We never take Musical Theatre classes in Japan" chimes in fellow peer Fumi Enomoto.

Always in pursuit of excellence, the Goh Ballet has designed an intensive curriculum which includes classes in Ballet, Pointe Repertoire and Variations, Pas de Deux, Contemporary, Pilates and Musical Theatre, all of which will supplement their classical ballet training. "Participating in this program and particularly studying at the Goh Ballet is something that will benefit our careers and overall training" Yuki Kanamoto concludes with fellow dancers all nodding in agreement.

Students are looking forward to an open-house for family and friends on July 28th 2012 at 11:15pm to showcase what they have learned this summer. Goh Ballet would like to thank all of the students who participated in this year’s program. We look forward to welcoming back many dancers next year for the International Intensive in the Goh Ballet's 35th anniversary season.

Classes stimulate students to better their technique and artistry with a fuller comprehension from detailed coaching specific to Variations and/or Pas de Deux. A daily Ballet class prepares students for their tailored sessions and individualized attention. Limited space is available.
