Goh Ballet's The Nutcracker — An Amazing 3^rd Year

The third annual production of Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker was met once again with warm hearts by the city of Vancouver and critics alike. The Georgia Straight boasted, "The new version of the classic that the company launched in 2009 still stands up against any touring productions." This overwhelming reaction has confirmed that we have established our goal of becoming a traditional and heart-warming activity for the City of Vancouver, which serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of every single person involved, all 200 plus people!

A production of this caliber and scale would not be possible without the support of our generous sponsors. The Goh Ballet would like to send our appreciation and gratitude to the new Production Title Sponsor, Lugaro in Partnership with Rolex. A welcomed partnership, this collaboration made it possible for our production to 'sparkle'. Thank you also to the many other sponsors and donors including all of the individuals who worked so hard to sell raffle tickets for our annual fundraiser. It is due to all of you that the magic of dance and dreams can be fulfilled each December.

Time to party at The 2011 Nutcracker Cast Celebration

Everyone had a blast at the 2011 Nutcracker Cast Celebration on January 15 2012! Highlights of the day included prize giveaways, a dance-off judged by the Nutcracker Bear, and an unveiling of an amazing Nutcracker cake made especially for us by Cupcakes! We also had fun playing with the props at the cast party photo booth! Stay tuned for our photobooth pictures, they will be available shortly from an online viewing source. Congratulations again to our raffle ticket sales grand prize winner of the iPad 2, Rachel Weber, and the winner of our colouring contest, Maureen Luo. Great work, girls. We would also like to once again recognize all of our fabulous and outstanding students and parent volunteers who were awarded with certificates and prizes during our special awards ceremony for their dedication, performance and overall contributions to our production.

Performance photographs and DVDs of the Nutcracker will be available for purchase soon (for members of the cast only). Please check your inboxes in the coming weeks.

RAD & Festival

Mark your calendars! The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Special Mock Examination Practice will happen on either Monday, March 19^th or Tuesday, March 20^th, 2012. The mock exam will take place during the regularly scheduled classes. Please note that only the students who have signed up and paid for the mock exam can participate. The projected examination dates are April 10^th – 15^th and April 16^th – 22^nd 2012 and will be confirmed by the RAD in mid to late February.

The Goh Ballet Artistic Staff would like to commend the festival participants for their hard work in preparing for these competitions. If you are participating, do not forget to save the date for the Surrey Festival. The date for Ballet at the Surrey Festival is March 23^rd – 30^th 2012.

Save the Date: Goh Ballet's Coppelia & the Junior School Presentation

The Goh Ballet’s Junior School will be presenting the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on Sunday, June 10th as part of their annual Junior School Presentation. It will be held at Jules-Verne Secondary School at 5445 Baillie Street in Vancouver, BC.

On June 1^st and 2^nd Goh Ballet presents the full-length ballet Coppelia. This exciting performance will be held at the Vancouver Playhouse, located at 601 Hamilton Street in Vancouver, BC.

A Summer of Dance

This summer, the Goh Ballet is excited to offer four unique and inspiring programs for dancers of all ages and abilities. The Performance Workshop (June 20th – 30th), the renowned and anticipated International Summer Intensive (July 3rd – 28th), the NEW Variations and Pas de Deux Coaching (August 8th – 18th) sessions as well as our NEW Children’s Summer Dance Workshops designed for budding dancers ages 4 – 7. Some of the world renowned guest instructors have already been announced for the season including Evelyn Hart, Canadian Walk of Fame Awardee & former Prima Ballerina of the Royal Winnipeg, Karina Elver, Teacher, Choreographer & Former Soloist of the Royal Danish Ballet as well as Paola Hartley, Principal Dancer of Ballet Arizona.
